Clan Hunter

When I first joined Clan Hunter I met the Clan Genealogist, Ron Bogart, and he
was so helpful in my Hunter research. He sent me my first GEDCOM which tied my
tree into the Lairds of Hunterston Castle.

Civil War Draft

In the U.S. Civil War Draft Registration Records, 1863 – 1865
Enoch Hunter is listed as a farmer and age 27.

Civil War Draft

In my research on I found my 2nd great grandfather, Samuel Elijah Hunter,
in the U.S. Civil War Draft Registration Records, 1863-1865.

Samuel Hunter
birth year c. 1833
birth place Virginia
age on July 1863 30
Race White
Marital Married
Residence Kanawha, West Virginia
District 3rd
Class 1

I also see that his brother, Enoch, is also listed.

Ancestral Trails

After a month long vacation this past August, we followed my Hunter ancestors from
Giles County, Pearisburg, Virginia, to the Giles County courthouse where a Revolutionary War Memorial lists a Robert Hunter who is my ancestor. The Giles
County Historical Society was closed, but is on my list for future trips.

Clan Hunter Gatherings

After thirty years of researching my Hunter genealogy, and becoming a historian of our family history, I decided to register the Hunter surname with the Guild of One-Name Studies.

My paternal line goes to the ancestors of the Lairds of Hunterston Castle in West Kilbride, Ayrshire, Scotland.

In 2014 I attended my very first Clan Hunter Gathering in Scotland, and this coming
2017 I will be attending another one.

Our Clan Chief, Pauline Hunter of Hunterston, 30th Laird of Hunterston, has a Clan
Hunter International Gathering every three years.
